Ready to jump into Dog Agility training?
Distance skills and obstacle independence is the goal!
3 levels:
1 – Foundation skills
2 – Intermediate skills
3 – Putting it all together
Each level builds on the previous one!
When should you start distance training?
Preferably right from the beginning! When we start training our agility dogs, we paint a picture for them: this is what agility is going to look like. So if we are always running beside them, if we are always close to each obstacle, this is what our dog will think is normal. And later, when we try to add distance, the dog is confused — wait a minute why are you so far away?!
So it is best to start the distance training early on in the dog’s agility career. That way, the dog just gets used to you not being right by their side. Since the basic skills are not taught using agility equipment even puppies can learn those distance building blocks!
What if your dog already has some agility skills but no distance skills?
